What is the best way to get good at 8 ball pool, Billiards & Snooker?

If i just were to buy a pool table and continually practice, would i get good at the game? or is it better to practice a particular way or using particular drills?
I have done a lot of hanging out in clubs playing pool. I still just find that i am not as good as i should be with how much time i spend in clubs playing pool.

I never bet. I only would bet small amounts if i knew i was good at the game.

      For long distance and within 5000 or so games you keep your object ball this makes mental dotted line to be consistent winner.
