How to remember where the contact point on the the object ball is in billiards/pool?

I line up the object ball to the pocket and know that the contact point is dead center, but as I move away to the left or right, I lose that point unless I have something physical that I can affix it to.
I line up the object ball to the pocket and know that the contact point is dead center, but as I move away to the left or right, I lose that point unless I have something physical that I can affix it to.
Any tips? Or is there an easier way to visualize the contact point without being in line with the pocket?
