Just a question that caught my interest when I read an article about it being in some intelligence test for third graders.
You may only choose one answer from the list, lest ye be obliterated. According to the article, there is supposed to be one logical answer…

Designing Your Billiard Room
Filed Under Billiards | Comments Off
A billiard room is a great room for you, your family, and your guests to have fun. Billiards, or pool, is a very popular game with family members of all ages too, so it can even keep the kids quiet while they learn and master a new game. The billiard room itself is a unique space in the house that requires good lighting, a decent table, plenty of room, and even a bar for a more authentic feel. The design of the room itself will be down to your personal preference but here are some factors you need to consider.
Measuring The Room
When measuring the room to buy a pool table, always remember that there needs to be room to stand by the table and play the shot. This means being able to draw the cue back without hitting it against the wall. Pool tables are available in 7 foot, 8 foot, or 9 foot models and while 9 foot is the standard regulation size it is more common for the home billiard room to include an 8 foot table because this usually allows players to comfortably take their shots.
Choosing The Lighting
Lighting is also important. Generally, the lights should be placed directly above the table and as centrally as possible. This helps to ensure that there are no shadows cast on the table either by other objects in the room or by the rail of the table itself. With lower ceilings it may be possible to opt for lights fixed into the ceiling, but higher rooms may require a hanging light as is often seen in bars and pool halls. Hanging lights like these enable you to control the light in the rest of the room independently of the pool table light so you can illuminate the billiard table without having to blind everybody in the room.
Slate Beds
Most players, professionals, and even novices advise the purchase of a slate bed table but if you do buy wooden or synthetic materials then you should consider the moisture and atmospheric conditions in the room. Tables with a wooden bed can easily warp and disfigure if it is not kept in the proper conditions.
Billiard Table Covers
Regardless of the material used, it is always advised that a pool table be covered when not in used. This helps the integrity of the felt on the table so that you can continue to enjoy a good looking table that allows you to play the best possible shots. The cover itself should ideally be mostly opaque so that the cover and the rest of the table is protected from light as well as from dust and other debris.
Cleaning Your Table
Some pool tables come with an accessory kit that includes items like felt brushes. If your table comes with a felt brush then be sure to use it regularly. Small pieces of debris not only interact with the balls but can lead to damaged cloth and balls. Brush the table before and after each use and cover it when not in use. Never chalk the cue tip over the table because chalking the tip always leads to some chalk trail being left behind and, again, this can lead to damaged cloth or damaged balls. It’s highly unlikely you’ll be able to damage the slate but this isn’t the only aspect of a billiard table that needs to remain in good condition.

What is the billiards game that uses the little number balls?
Filed Under Billiards | Comments Off
I played a game with my grandfather and cousin a few years back where we all picked three numbers out of a jug with little numbered balls 1-15. I think the object was to knock each other’s balls in without knowing what the other one had. Has anyone played this game? If so, what’s the name of this game and what are the official rules as my memory is failing me.

Get The Most From Your New Billiards Table
Filed Under Billiards | Comments Off
Modern billiards tables can come in a wide range of different shapes, sizes, and designs and with reasonable care and attention they should last for many years to come. By choosing the best table, covering it when not in use, and cleaning the cloth and wood at regular intervals you can help ensure that your new billiard table continues to look its best and keeps offering the best playing experience possible for you, your family, and guests whenever you want a quick game.
Choose The Right Table
Choosing the right table is the first step to a lifetime of enjoyment. There are a number of aspects to consider. While the felt and even the rails, although to a lesser extent, can be replaced if necessary in the future, the bed of the table and the actual legs and frame are considerably more expensive and more difficult to replace. For this reason, you should concentrate on finding billiard tables that use the best materials.
Slate Bed Or Non Slate Bed
Slate bed isn’t just considered the best material because of how well it plays but because it will last a lifetime. Where wood and synthetic materials can become damaged even through regular but normal use, slate will not bend, chip, splinter, or warp even following just regular use and a number of people leaning across the table to play long shots. Even liquid spillage will have a considerably less damaging effect, as it will run off the slate without warping.
Table Material
The material used for the construction of the table legs and frame is as important as the choice of bed material. A sub-standard frame will not be able to take the weight of regular use and will certainly struggle under the weight of a good 1” thick slate bed. In contrast, the use of hardwood provides a strong and robust frame and support for the table and users as well as incredible looking designs that you can’t get in MDF or synthetic materials.
Caring For The Felt
The cloth is an important part of the billiard table and while you can pay to have a table recovered, doing so on a regular basis will mean that the cost will soon add up. To negate the need to do this, you should look after the felt as much as possible. If your table included a felt cloth then you should use this before and after playing to remove any dirt or other debris that might get caught and rip or otherwise damage the cloth.
Covering Your Table
Another method of felt care is to add an opaque pool table cover when it is not in use. The cover sits over the top of the table and prevents dust and dirt from getting in. A coloured cloth that doesn’t allow the light to get through will also prevent the felt from discolouring under bright lights.
Choosing A Billiard Table That Will Last A Lifetime
Strong slate bed tables can be used regularly and routinely for playing any form of pool or billiards. They’re strong enough to safely take the weight of a player leaning over to play long shots and they are even resilient to atmospheric changes. Damp, extreme cold and warm conditions will not have the same detrimental effect on a slate table as they would on a wooden table or a synthetic one.

Custom Pool Cues Are Affordable Quality!
Filed Under Billiards | Comments Off
Just because a pool cue comes in two pieces that screw together doesn’t necessarily mean it’s a custom cue. Real custom pool cues are made to fit the customer’s needs, not because they’d be easier to ship when they’re in two pieces. A two-piece cue could just be a mass-produced cue that is made with unseasoned wood and cheap glue, which would not be a wise investment.
So, what do you look for when you’re ready to order your custom pool cues? And, what makes a high-quality custom cue? A custom cue has several distinct parts, including the wood, shaft, wrap, ferrule, tip, and joint materials and types. The balance, diameter and weight of the cue are important considerations that determine the cue’s performance.
How do you go about deciding on which custom cue is for you? For starters, you can try out all sorts of different cues. Get the feel of it, and analyze your likes and dislikes. When you find one you like, check to see who manufactured it.
Then determine if it was constructed from seasoned, dense hardwood because, if it wasn’t, the cue will eventually warp. Kiln-dried wood is not good enough, because custom pool cues are made from wood that’s been incrementally reduced in size, and this can take years to accomplish. Exotic woods accented with all sorts of attractive inlays would not only make a quality custom pool cue, they are pieces of art in and of themselves.
Make sure you don’t feel a vibration in the cue when you hit pool table balls or if you lightly let it fall on the rubber bumpers. Then look at the tip of the cue. The ferrule, the metal piece that not only holds the butt cap, also prevents the cue’s wood from splitting. Quality ferrules will be made with Ivorene III, Aegis II, phenolic or linen-based fiber material. The butt cap should not be made from a nylon wrap fabric, as this would be a bad sign; if the manufacturer skimps on the butt cap, they’ll skimp on other items as well.
When you buy quality custom cues in the beginning, you’ll save money in the long run, because you won’t have to keep replacing cheap cues that will easily warp in the extreme Arizona climate. We represent more than 25 world-wide, quality custom cue manufacturers. Come in and choose the cue that’s right for you. We will write an order according to your exact weight specifications.
